Spray Free Cilantro from Slow River Garden

Typically a love-or-hate, we think there's always room to convert the non-believers! For even the most picky eaters, cilantro works beautifully as a base for sauces and marinades. A favourite is this unbelievably flavourful Caribbean Green Seasoning, which combines green onion, garlic, and a handful of other herbs into a marinade masterpiece.

Garlic Scapes from Prairie Winds Farm

Subtle, sweet and somewhat of a lightly-garlic-flavoured asparagus in overall sensation, these can be fried into exotic tempura, sauteed and added to a side, or blended into a delicious pesto! Their garlic flavour settles down slightly when cooked, giving way to their sweetness. We came up with this extraordinary Garlic Scape Compound Butter to keep handy and ready for ay occasion at home.

Organic Green Kale from Blue Lagoon (Recipe in newest box)

Rich, earthy and full of minerals. Kale is familiar to most! How did it go recreating our Kale and Quinoa Salad? Maybe try making some easy and tasty kale chips this week .

Organic Summer Savory from Blue Lagoon

A characteristic ingredient in herbes de Provence, summer savoury has popular followings and uses all over the world. In Atlantic Canada, it takes the place of sage in many dishes. It has a rich earthiness, reminsicent of rosemary but with more sweetness and fresh zest. Will work well into any poultry, pork or duck seasoning. And, if you STILL haven't tried This Jumping Potatoes, the original blog recipe with summer savoury can be found here!

Spray Free Green Butterhead from Wild Earth

Tender, sweet and mild flavour with lower water content than romaine or large leaf lettuce, mostly due to a lack of ribs. Great for salad rolls or wrapping burgers, this stuff is top shelf as far as lettuce goes.

Spray Free Bunched Beet from  Jonothan Farms

Sweet and nutritious! Beets are known for roasting and borscht, but they've also been known to sneak their way into a desert or two, lending rich sweetness, minerals and moisture retention! They're packed with minerals and dietary nitrates, which improve oxygen flow through the bloodstream and regulate blood pressure! Or enhance their natural sweetness with a drizzle of honey and balsamic vinegar to make Balsamic Roasted Beets.

Spray Free Kholrabi Jonothan Farms

Available in purple and green varieties, this brassica may seem intimidating if you've never worked with it before. Feat not! Getting to its crisp, juicy core is a fairly simple task even for new knife-wielders (check out our Instagram TV for a quick tutorial!) We just worked out some great recipes with Kohlrabi on the blog, so if you're still stuck on how to eat it after peeling, check these out! Or just snack on it raw!

P.S. The greens are edible and delicious, too!

Spray Free Radish from Jonothan Farms

Peppery and fresh, and you can DEFINITELY eat the greens, too! These don't get NEARLY enough love. I love these absolutely on their own, sliced with a bit of salt in the morning next to some creamy scrambled eggs, but if you want some inspiration on how to use these in their entirety,  here are some amazing recipes using the entire radish. Try one, try them all!

Salad Cucumbers from Owl Tree Farms

Great for pickling, or as the name suggests, thrown into a salad. Cucumbers are the perfect vegetable for beating the heat (and we've got lots of that coming!). I welcome you to try making an Israeli Salad with this juicy and crisp cucumbers.

Haskaps from Riverbend Orchards

These berries are also commonly referred to as Honeyberries, but we prefer the Japanese namesake which translates to "little present on the end of a branch". A superfruit all their own, they taste like a bit of a mix between antioxidant-rich blueberry with a tartness reminiscent of raspberries before an apple-like sweetness finishes them off. Can be eaten raw, frozen for smoothies or baked into your favourite deserts!

See you next week!
