Spray-free Green AND Yellow Zucchini from Wild Earth farms

Roast, fry or ratatouille! These sweet squash are no stranger to most kitchens. Unlike varieties of winter squash, their tender flesh and sweet fruitiness are best enjoyed as soon after harvest as possible. Try these out in Cryssi's Crispy Zucchini Fritters recipe!

Spray-Free Spring White Onion from Wild Earth Farms

Sweeter and milder than mature onions, and more potent than scallions, these are perfect for slicing thin as garnish, caramelized over the grill, or turned into soup!
Check out Chef Cryssi's recipe for Creamy Green Onion Soup, and sub them in here!

Spray-free Parsley from Wild Earth Farms.

Fresh and lightly peppery, parsley plays nicely in cocktails, atop buttery potatoes and torn or chopped over just about any fat-rich meat!

Treating the parsley much like a bunch of flowers will keep it fresh longer. Trim the stems slightly, and without washing place the bundle in a container filled with about 1 inch of water

Organic Rhubarb from Blue Lagoon Organics

A Manitoba staple! Amazing in pies, reduced into a tasty syrup (you can make our Rhubarb refreshers at home (🤫) or just roll in honey or sugar and eat raw!

Organic Fennel from Blue Lagoon Organics

Ok so not everyone is a fan of licorice flavour but THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO FENNEL! As an Italian, I can't let fennel have a bad name on my watch. Luckily, Cryssi just worked shaved fennel into an unbelievably fresh and delicious slaw with kohlrabi and granny smith apples (I literally ate the entire batch that we made to shoot for this recipe). For the pickier eaters, it is impossible not to love this version roasted with parm, via Giada De Laurentiis, too!

Organic Green Kale from Blue Lagoon Organics

Rich, earthy and full of minerals. Kale is familiar to most! Check out our featured recipe at the bottom of the page where we blend kale with garlic scapes to make a tasty twist on pesto!

Organic Beets from Blue Lagoon Organics

Sweet and nutritious! Beets are known for roasting and borscht, but they've also been known to sneak their way into a desert or two, lending rich sweetness, minerals and moisture retention! They're packed with minerals and dietary nitrates, which improve oxygen flow through the bloodstream and regulate blood pressure!

Spray-free Green Head Lettuce from Slow River Gardens

Sweet and tender! This leafy lettuce adds a crisp freshness to salads or sandwiches without too much water content!

Spray-free Radishes from Slow River Gardens

Peppery and fresh, and you can DEFINITELY eat the greens, too! These don't get NEARLY enough love. I love these absolutely on their own, sliced with a bit of salt in the morning next to some creamy scrambled eggs, but if you want some inspiration on how to use these in their entirety, Cryssi worked out some amazing recipes using the entire radish. Try one, try them all!

Spray-free Green Head Lettuce from Slow River Gardens

Sweet and tender! This leafy lettuce adds a crisp freshness to salads or sandwiches without too much water content!

Spray-free Salad Cucumbers from Slow River Gardens

Great for pickling, or as the name suggests, thrown into a salad. Cucumbers are the perfect vegetable for beating the heat (and we've got lots of that coming!).

Spray-free Saskatoons from Riverbend Orchards.

What is there to say? These are a prairie favourite, fresh or incorporated into your favourite sweet or savoury dish. Enjoy them fresh while you can, and save the rest (if you have any left!) for an ice-cream topping compote! Full of antioxidants, with rich history throughout Indigenous cultures, this shrub is actually more closely related to an apple tree than they are to blueberries!

Spray-free Radish Microgreens from Sweet Prairie Green

Loaded with flavour AND a much higher nutrient density than fully grown radish, these greens actually taste more like the fully developed bulb of a radish than they do greens! Sprinkle into a sandwich for a light, peppery bite, or freshen up a heavy noodle dish with a sprinkling on top! These are best enjoyed as fresh as possible!

Spray-free Zucchini Flowers from Wild Earth Farms

As the biased author with Italian roots that I am, there's only one way to eat these (ok maybe a few with modifications). I grew up on fried zucchini blossoms every summer, whether as is or stuffed with fresh, homemade ricotta (which is also surprisingly easy and rewarding to make, if you're interested). Eat these as fresh as possible. You'll impress your friends and I promise they're as simple and delicious as they are elegant!

Organic Rainbow Beets from Hearts and Roots

The most beautiful beets you ever did see! They're your beets, but please please please don't just cook these down into borscht or blend them into baking as normal beets. Feature them. Honour them in all of their glory. Salt roast them and cube into a beautiful beet salad. Pickle them. Slice them and make rainbow beet gratin -- the possibilities are endless, but we won't blame you for just staring at them for a while, either.

Organic Slicer Cucumbers from Hearts and Roots

Refreshing, cool and crisp with a hint of sweetness! Great way to beat the heat (toss the ends into a glass of water to sit if you're not keen on eating them -- makes an electrolyte-rich drink!).

Organic Garlic from Hearts and Roots

Fresh-from-the-ground is much more potent and than garlic that has sat in a truck or shelf for weeks+! Adjust your use accordingly if you're not a garlic fiend (the rest of us, rejoice!)

Spray-free Saskatoons from Riverbend Orchards.
