Organic Beets from Blue Lagoon Organics

Sweet and nutritious! Beets are known for roasting and borscht, but they've also been known to sneak their way into a desert or two, lending rich sweetness, minerals and moisture retention! They're packed with minerals and dietary nitrates, which improve oxygen flow through the bloodstream and regulate blood pressure!

Organic Parsley from Blue Lagoon Organics

Fresh and lightly peppery, parsley plays nicely in cocktails, atop buttery potatoes and torn or chopped over just about any fat-rich meat! Treating the parsley much like a bunch of flowers will keep it fresh longer.

Spray-free Beefsteak Tomatoes from Greenland gardens

One of the largest varieties of tomato! These are sweet and meaty.
Arguable the ultimate BLT tomato, they're also great for slicing up into a "flattened" caprese!

Spray-free Fennel from Twin River Gardens

Ok so not everyone is a fan of licorice flavour but THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO FENNEL! As an Italian, I can't let fennel have a bad name on my watch. Luckily, Cryssi just created some amazing feature recipes for this week using fennel! And if that's not your thing, she also did a dish with shaved fennel in an unbelievably fresh and delicious slaw with kohlrabi and granny smith apples (I literally ate the entire batch that we made to shoot for this recipe). For the pickier eaters, it is impossible not to love this version roasted with parm, via Giada De Laurentiis, too!

Spray-free Chard from Twin River Gardens

Chard lies somewhere between spinach and kale in the 'greens spectrum' -- not as earthy or tough as kale, not as tender as spinach. This green is extremely versatile -- it can be sauteed, eaten raw in salad, and is delicious grilled over charcoal or on a regular grill.

Spray-free Basil from Twin River Gardens

The undisputed herb champion returns. You gotta know what to do with this if you're ordering a farm box, right? Do I need to describe this one?
Ok fine: make a pesto, top a margherita pizza (pick up a few Archie's crusts from our market and make your own, trust me), reduce with sugar and water for a delicious simple syrup, muddle into a cocktail (I even throw a leaf in an iced cold cola from time to time!), mix into aioli for a sandwich or fry dip, or fold into chopped, fresh strawberries with sugar for a sweet, floral ice cream topping like you've never had before!

Spray-free Salad Cucumbers from Green Acres Farm

Great for pickling, or as the name suggests, thrown into a salad. Cucumbers are the perfect vegetable for beating the heat (and we've got lots of that coming!).

Spray-free Orange Carrots from Jonathan Farms

Sweet, tender and fresh -- did you know the greens are an excellent source of nutrition and EASY to turn into a delicious dish all on their own? Check out Cryssi's Carrot Greens: 3 ways, on the recipe blog for your own inspiration!

Organic Cilantro from Blue Lagoon Organics

Typically a love-or-hate, we think there's always room to convert the non-believers! For even the most picky eaters, cilantro works beautifully as a base for sauces and marinades. A favourite is this unbelievably flavourful Caribbean Green Seasoning, which combines green onion, garlic, and a handful of other herbs into a marinade masterpiece.

Spray-free Cocktail Tomatoes from Greenland Gardens

Slightly larger than a grape or cherry tomato (though some overlap is common), these half perfectly onto fancy toast or a salad all their own, char and pop perfectly in a cast iron to accompany soft scrambled eggs, and can even be halved and roasted with garlic and herbs for a rich side, or base for a sauce!

Organic Grellow/Zephyr Zucchini from Hearts and Roots

Like green zucchini, but sweeter, this beautiful squash is described as having a green almond flavour. Prepare as you would other zucchini or small squash. Unless the skin is bitter, there is no need to remove it! Try these out in Cryssi's Crispy Zucchini Fritters recipe!

Organic Garlic from Hearts and Roots

Fresh-from-the-ground is much more potent and than garlic that has sat in a truck or shelf for weeks+! Adjust your use accordingly if you're not a garlic fiend (the rest of us, rejoice!)

Local Honeydew or Cantaloupe from Green Acres Farms

Dense, tender and uber-sweet flesh! These local melons are pulling their weight and THEN some. Pair with a slice of salty prosciutto, blend into an unbelievably fresh melon smoothie, or cube and serve iced cold on a hot day! Cantaloupe can also be roasted to enhance its natural sweetness!
