Spray-free Green AND Yellow Zucchini from Wild Earth farms

Roast, fry or ratatouille! These sweet squash are no stranger to most kitchens. Unlike varieties of winter squash, their tender flesh and sweet fruitiness are best enjoyed as soon after harvest as possible. The yellow variety is slightly sweeter, while green is more grassy and herbaceous. Try these out in Cryssi's Crispy Zucchini Fritters recipe!

Spray-free Red or Green Cabbage from Jonathan Farms

Very healthy and very versatile -- most Manitobans are familiar with the all-too-comforting cabbage roll, but it's rarely the star of the show otherwise. Try flipping that script and give this beautiful brassica it's chance to shine! If you need some inspiration, Cryssi has your back with this Cabbage and Cucumber Salad recipe!

Spray-free Field Cucumbers from Jonathan Farms

The classic field cucumber. Heartier, with thicker skin than its English cousin, this cucumber often needs to be sliced and peeled (though many do prepare them to eat with the skins via pickling, maceration or other treatment!). Try them in the recipe with cabbage, above!

Spray-free Green Onions from Jonathan Farms

Fragrant, sweet and milder than storage onions. These are beautiful blended into seasonings or chopped up as the perfect finishing garnish.
Chef Cryssi whipped up some amazing recipes for these with some help from our Kitchen Team member Sophie!

Spray-free Orange Carrots from Jonathan Farms

Sweet, tender and fresh -- did you know the greens are an excellent source of nutrition and EASY to turn into a delicious dish all on their own? Check out Cryssi's Carrot Greens: 3 ways, on the recipe blog for your own inspiration!

Organic Red New Potatoes from Oak Valley Organics

I've said it once, and I'll say it again: Jumping potatoes are the go-to method/recipe of the summer (and forever). Simple, one-pot, and easy to incorporate ANY herb you like. Our recipe at the top of this blog post uses summer savoury, but try it with whatever you'd like! (Carrot greens might be a nice play, too!) *Be sure to keep these refrigerated!

Spray-free Rosemary from Twin River Farm

You'd never guess that this fragrant herb is part of the mint family, would you? This plant has a long history with uses spanning from culinary to perfumes to health! It is a cognitive stimulant (could've told you that with just a whiff!) and adds a deep, resinous flavour to any dishes or even cocktails!

Organic Patty Pan Squash from Blue Lagoon Organics

These saucer-shaped squash are as much fun to look at as they are to cook! They love to be roasted, grilled or seared in a cast-iron pan! Their skin is completely edible, so no need to ruin the aesthetic before you dig in!

Organic Garlic Scapes from Blue Lagoon Organics

Subtle, sweet and somewhat of a lightly-garlic-flavoured asparagus in overall sensation, these can be fried into exotic tempura, sauteed and added to a side, or blended into a delicious pesto! Their garlic flavour settles down slightly when cooked, giving way to their sweetness.

Spray-free Shishito Peppers from Wild Earth Farms

Ever played pepper roulette? Bet you can't eat just one! These peppers range in heat level from ~100-1000 Scoville units (or roughly, from Bell pepper to 1/2 as hot as a jalapeno). There are many ways to eat these, as with any pepper, but this simple version is a tapas classic, and to be honest, the most delicious, fun way to fully appreciate them!

Spray-free Basil from Twin Rivers Farm

The undisputed herb champion (sorry, Italian side coming out again). You gotta know what to do with this if you're ordering a farm box, right? Do I need to describe this one?
Ok fine: make a pesto, top a margherita pizza (pick up a few Archie's crusts from our market and make your own, trust me), reduce with sugar and water for a delicious simple syrup, muddle into a cocktail (I even throw a leaf in an iced cold cola from time to time!), mix into aioli for a sandwich or fry dip, or fold into chopped, fresh field strawberries with sugar for a sweet, floral ice cream topping like you've never had before!
