Fall Food Box --WEEK 4--
It's been a month already! We really hope this past month has helped you find your new favourite recipe, vegetable or locally grown treat.
Here's what to expect in this week's box!
Spray-Free Celeriac from Twin River Gardens
Celeriac, or celery root is perfect for a mirepoix in soups, with an earthy-celery flavour. Also a low-carb potato substitute although not as fluffy as potatoes when mashed, they are still delicious and help maintain a healthy diet.
Organic Orange Carrots From Oak Valley Organics
Sweet, tender and fresh. Carrots are a staple this time of year, a crucial part of any soup, a great addition to roasts or even as a fresh snack with some of our Simply Crampton's French Onion dip.
Spray-Free Bok Choy from Jonathan Farms
A very versatile leafy green from the Brassica family. Perfect for sauteeing with Garlic and chillis, or apart of a stirfry. High in all the good minerals and vitamins. Try this Garlic Bok Choy as your next side dish
Spray-Free Black Kale from Jonathan Farms (Farmer shorted, Limited number of boxes will get this)
Black Kale, Also Known as Dino Kale is a crisp, hearty green. Perfect addition to a smoothie, or as air-fryer kale chips or a Zuppa Toscana.
Spray-Free Rainbow Chard from Jonathan Farms (Farmer Shorted: Limited number of boxes will get this item, remaining boxes will get Green Kale)
Add some colour to your dinners this week! Use the leaves as you would spinach, and use the stalks as you would asparagus. Chard is a relative of the beet. But unlike traditional beets -- which put their energy into producing finger-staining roots, chard instead produces big, tender leaves and crunchy stalks.
Spray-Free Red Cabbage from Jonathan Farms (Farmer shorted, Limited number of boxes will get this)
A perfect base for a coleslaw, or as a colourful topper to salads. The plant changes its colour according to the pH value of the soil. Although it is called Red Cabbage, it is a purple colour and stains blue. A whole rainbow in one veggie!
Spray-Free Red Onions from Jonathan Farms
Sweeter onions like Red Onions are less likely to make you tear up when you cut them!
Spray-Free Cocktail Tomatoes from Greenland Gardens
Did you know there are over 10 thousand varieties of Tomatoes in the world?
Spray-Free English Cucumbers from Greenland Gardens
English Cucumbers were actually bred to create a cucumber without some of the more undesirable characteristics that this vegetable has, such as a tough outer skin, large seeds, and a bitter taste. They are also known as hothouse cucumber
TRY THIS WEEK'S FEATURED RECIPE:
All boxes will be shorted cucumbers this week, but I will try to send them in next week for you. As a substitution to 1/2 greens (either swiss chard or Kale) and the cucumber, we will send out Chiogga Beet and Red Kuri Squash this week.
Thank you for your understanding .
WELCOME TO NOVEMBER, HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
