Microgreens - Organic

Microgreens are from Sweet Prairie Greens. These are Radish Shoots. They are a year-round micro green farm. Microgreens are the perfect addition to any meal! Add them to your sandwiches or salads and top off your pasta, eggs, soups and stews with any microgreen! 

Add these to your sandwich with thinly sliced radish. 

Head Lettuce - Spray Free

Head lettuce is from Jonathan Farms. It's enjoyed for its mild flavor and crispness. It's a delicious addition to salads and perfect for lettuce wraps. Store lettuce in the refrigerator's crisper wrapped in a damp paper towel and sealed in a bag. The leaves will absorb moisture from the towel and you can replace it if the leaves become soggy. Iceberg lettuce should keep for four to five days before it begins to wilt.

Baby Carrots - Organic

Baby carrots are from Blue Lagoon Organics. A baby carrot is a carrot sold at a smaller size before reaching maturity. Eat and store just like regular carrots. These make the perfect snack for kids or added to any meal.

Try roasting your baby carrots and adding them as a side to your dinner.  

Fingerling Potatoes - Organic

Fingerling potatoes are from Blue Lagoon Organics. This is a great type of potatoes for slicing in half or quarters the long way and roasting with olive oil and salt and pepper. They are more of a roasting potato or could be added to a stew of some sort.

This recipe is simple by just adding parmesan cheese and your favourite herbs. Feel free to use what you have available including the dill from your box. 

Gold Beets - Organic

Gold Beets are from Blue Lagoon Organics. The greens are similar to swiss chard so try and eat those as well because its extra work to keep the beet greens on and make them into bunches. The beets can be shredded or sliced thinly to be eaten raw, or they can be roasted in a veggie mix or to top a salad.

Try these brown sugar-glazed golden beets.

Sage is from Wild Earth Farms. Sage is an herb that is prized for its strong herbal aroma and earthy flavor. It is used in savory recipes and is a common ingredient in Thanksgiving stuffing. It works well when combined with other herbs and complements a variety of foods, from meat and seafood to lemon and butter.

Experience sage to it's fullness with this simple pasta using butter, parmesan and these fresh sage leaves. 

Spaghetti Squash - Spray Free

Squash is from Wild Earth Farms. Store on the counter, or in a pantry or cool dry place for 2 months or more. This squash has spaghetti-like strands in the middle. Cut in half lengthwise, scoop out the seeds and then roast it at 375 for about 45 minutes or until a fork can gently scrape out the strands easily. It can then be mixed with butter, garlic, salt and pepper or a tomato-based mixture/sauce.

You can make an entire meal from this squash! Try this Italian Spaghetti Squash recipe that uses Italian sausage. 

Turnips - Spray Free

Hakurei Turnips are from Jonathan Farms. These have a crisp, delicious raw flavour. Unlike other turnip varieties, hakurei do not need to be cooked. Try them baked or boiled in stews, soups and stir-fries, or lightly steamed with some butter, salt or lemon juice for flavor. Store for up to four or five days in plastic food storage bags in the refrigerator.

This glazed Hakurei Turnips Recipe is a simple way to cook and enjoy these turnips with just some butter and sugar. 

Red Sparkle Apples - Spray Free

Apples are from Baker Orchards. All apples should be stored in a cool, humid place. In order to keep apples at their peak, avoid storing them in close proximity to strongly flavored foods such as onions.

Cocktail Tomatoes - Spray Free

Tomatoes are from Twin River Farms. Store on the counter in the container for 1 week. Cook down these tomatoes in a pan with pasta for a nice soft sauce or sprinkle them around fish to grill! They're a bit bigger than cherry tomatoes so they can be sliced for a tomato tart, on a pizza or flatbread. 

Dill - Spray Free

Dill is from Twin Rivers. Store in a glass of water with the ends down or in a bag in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Chop up and sprinkle on fish, in salads, make a veggie dip with sour cream and garlic scapes, or on roasted veggies. Add fresh dill to your potatoes!

Green Peppers are from Jonathan Farms. The green bell pepper is a sweet pepper picked before ripening. As it ripens, the fruit turns yellow, orange, and then red. Refrigerate peppers, unwashed, in a plastic bag in the vegetable drawer. Keep them dry, as moisture will eventually cause them to rot.
