Candy Cane Beets - Spray Free

Candy Cane Beets are from Wild Earth Farms. These served raw make a great addition to fresh salads. Just like regular red or yellow beets, they can also be boiled, steamed, roasted, sautéed and pickled. Remember not to skip the tasty greens—you can eat them too.

Because of the beautiful colour you can try these raw in a salad with apples. 

Zucchini Flower - Spray Free

Zucchini flowers are from Wild Earth Farms. Store in a container in the fridge for 1 week. The flowers are the blooms on the plant that indicate a zucchini will grow from that shoot. They are most commonly fried in oil to make a crispy fritter/tempura, or cut up and add a pretty color to a salad.

The most common way people eat these is frying them or stuffing them with cheese. You can try frying them with salt. 

Parsley - Spray Free

Parsley is from Wild Earth Farms. Store the same as the dill, with the ends in a glass of water or in a bag in the fridge. This local parsley has so much flavour and adds a fresh green taste to many sides like roasted veggies, salads, pasta dishes or salad dressings. 

Green Onions - Spray Free

Scallions come from Wild Earth Farms. Store in a tall glass of water in the fridge or even just in a bag for 1-2 weeks. These are regrowing plants so you can chop off the bottom of the onion and plant it in soil and it will start to grow out the top. Chop them up and sprinkle on top of every salad, add to a creamy dip, baked biscuit, or potato salad for a fresh green flavour. 

Green Beans - Organic

Green Beans are from Hearts and Roots Farms. Store the beans in the fridge for about 2 weeks. Since the beans we receive are hand-picked they don't perish as quickly. Great for snacking raw with dip or hummus, they have a delicious fresh crunch and mild flavour. If they are cooked, just saute for no more than a couple minutes to prevent them from getting tough. 

These beans are so good they can be eaten raw but if you want to make a great side dish try these Garlic Parmesan Green Beans

Garlic - Organic

Fresh garlic is from Hearts & Roots. Store in the fridge so it lasts longer and you only need to use a small amount for a lot of flavour. Add to your marinades, homemade salad dressings, dips, stir fry's or anything you want to add a fresh garlic flavour! 

This is the best Roasted Garlic Spaghetti and so simple to make. Make sure to top it off with the fresh parsley included in this box!

Onion is from Hearts and Roots Farms. The skin on this onion is a pale yellow and the flesh is relatively mild and sweet, so is recommended for fresh use—not a storage type. Excellent for salads and sandwiches. 

Why not make these onions their own side dish? Try roasting them with some balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper.

Zephyr Zucchini is from Hearts and Roots Farms. Zephyr squash is two-tone, colorful with tender skin and a mild flavor. It has a creamy, sweet flesh. Zephyr squash may be steamed, baked, roasted or sauteed. They may also be eaten raw, out of hand as well as thinly sliced or shaved. Keep refrigerated and it should store for one week. 

Take this zucchini and your onion and make this beautiful summer squash and onion dish. With just a few more simple added ingredients this is the perfect, colourful meal.

Salad Cucumbers are from Hearts and Roots Farms. Store in the fridge crisper for up to 1 week. They have thin skin so they don't need peeling. Just cut off the ends and slice up for sandwiches and salads.

We recently made this creamy cucumber salad recipe on our Instagram and it was a hit! It's a great way to use your cucumbers and it's very simple. Try adding more of your favourite veggies into the mix if you wish! 

Romaine - Organic

Romaine lettuce is grown at Hearts and Roots Farms. Rinse, then chop off the bottom and store wrapped in paper towel in a bag in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Chop up for all your salads, sandwiches, taco dip, burgers, etc. Make a salad your main dish by adding chicken, black beans, chickpeas or quinoa. 

Bunch Carrots - Spray Free

Bunched Carrots are from Heart Acres Farms. Store in the fridge in a bag or chop up and store in water in a container. These don't need to be peeled, just washed and cut up for raw snacking or a veggie platter.

Cylinder Beets are from Wild Earth Farms. Its shape makes it very nice for pickling or slicing. The leaves of this beet are a little sweeter than most other beets and are very nice as salad greens.

New Potatoes - Spray Free

New potatoes are from Oak Valley Vegetables located in Mordon, MB. These need to be stored in the fridge. What is a "new" potato? It means these were planted this spring! New potatoes have high water content and low starch content making them have a creamy and buttery taste and texture.

The best way to eat these is too boil these for 15 minutes and add butter and fresh dill.
