Food Bag pick up July 14 and 15
We were so glad that lots of you took advantage of the Tuesday evening pick up option. We'll be continuing on with the two options. Tuesday evening pick up between 5-8pm. Wednesday all day pick up 9 am-8 pm.
I made the pesto recipe that Carly made up for our shares last week, but with the greens season being in full swing right now, I needed something else to use up my greens. I washed and chopped my beet tops and chard and spun them dry. Then I chopped up some garlic scapes. I sauteed the scapes, then the chopped greens and added salt and pepper. When they were all wilty and cooked to my liking I put them on a plate, In the same pan that I had cooked the greens, I made 2 over easy eggs with runny yolks, popped them on top of my greens and I had dinner ready for the two of us in less than 15 minutes.
When the local produce is in season and the quality of ingredients is exceptional, it only takes the simplest of preparations to make a stellar meal.
Why are you getting so many greens in your shares right now? Because that's what's in season right now. That's the thing with seasonal eating. We have to forget about those red peppers from greenhouses in Alberta or California or Mexico. Turn a blind eye to those beans from the states. Right now our Spray free and Organic producers have green things for you!
I€™m posting this very early, so please do anticipate some changes depending on rain/heat/other unforseen weather events.
Remember to eat your shares from the top down to ensure that you still have fresh food at the end of the week.
