CSA pickup August 15th
OH you lucky ducks. This week's CSA includes Manitoba spray free watermelon. If you are particularly lucky, you may get one of the orange sherbet watermelons that came in. Orange or red fleshed, the melons are sweet and juicy. Unlike the Texas watermelon that we have been carrying, the Manitoba watermelon are small and have thin shells. When fully ripe the Manitoba melons crack easily, so please be gentle with your csa bag this week. Should you receive a cracked melon, not to worry, eat it anyway. These melons are grown on plastic and are not located near any livestock so the risk of an e coli contaminated melon is minimal.

This week I'll be peeling and grating my beets over top of my romaine lettuce. I just add some goat cheese, lemon juice and olive oil to make my favourite simple salad.
The onions right now are incredibly sweet. I'll sautee them until caramelized add some stock and make a quick french onion soup. Either that or caramelize them and have them on burgers. Last night Marc and I sauteed a half an onion with some of the wild lobster mushrooms that we currently have in the store. Absolutely divine.
I'll be using our cherry tomatoes on the grill with the zucchini that we get in the CSA. Check out the recipe blog for the grilled zucchini and tomato recipe. It also works well with japanese eggplant if you got some of that in your CSA. www.cramptonsrecipes.com
Happy eating!!
