CSA Pick up August 7th
I am loving this cooler summer that we are having. These mild temperatures mean that we still have raspberries, lettuces and peas in the pod. The rain means that the wild blueberries are plump and plentiful. And today, when I lifted over eight thousand pounds of produce that was delivered, I was incredibly appreciative of the cooler weather.
This week we get to celebrate the cooler weather with the CSAs. Raspberries for all, wild blueberries and basil for full shares. Not to worry, the hot weather items like corn and tomatoes are still on their way, we're just having to wait patiently for them this year!
Full shares this week will contain at least 8 of the following items
Carrots, organic
Potatoes, organic
Kale, organic
Beans, spray free
celery, organic
eggplant, spray free
basil, spray free
raspberries, organic
wild blueberries, naturally spray free, but not certified organic
Half shares this week to contain at least 4 of the following items
Potatoes, organic
Carrots, organic
Beans, spray free
Kale, organic
Raspberries, organic
The lovely Andrea from Banville and Jones has some fabulous wine pairings with this week's shares.
With eggplant making its appearance this week the options are endless.
Perhaps whipping up some Baba Ganoush would prove a great accompaniment to crudites of celery, carrots and beans. A great wine pairing with Baba Ganoush and fresh veggies would be the Joseph Mellot Destinea Rose at $13.99.
The Fior d'Arancio Moscato ($18.99), from a small producer in Italy's Veneto, is the perfect partner to an array of desserts that you may choose to create with this week's fresh raspberries and wild blueberries.
Half share participants, not to worry, there will be more wild blueberries in the CSAs in the weeks to come.
With these more moderate temperatures, you could try our kale and potato soup recipe, or once again try my most favourite kale quinoa salad. Both recipes, and so many more, are listed on our recipe blog. www.cramptonsrecipes.com
