CSA pick up January 6th
I have caught my first cold of the season, so have to say I'm not so verbose while writing this. To bed with me!
This week all shares to receive...
Lettuce, spray free
Carrots, organic
Beets, organic
Onions, organic
Green peppers, chopped and frozen, spray free. These chopped peppers are great to chuck into your chilli, sautee with onions for some tacos or fajitas, and to add to pasta sauces.
Tomatoes, frozen, spray free. I've recently tried my food in a pot with kale recipe with frozen tomatoes, and it worked like a charm. I was so lazy that I didn't even peel them and it didn't make a bit of difference.
Mixed shares to receive the above base with
Pork farmer sausage. Because it's so flavourful, this is a great sausage to add a chunk of to a split pea, veggie or beet soup. Other great alternatives include splitting in half, cooking, then eating on a toasted piece of baguette with a hot mustard, or slicing into thin pieces and frying with potatoes for brunch.
Pickerel
Grass Fed beef burger patties. I'm all about the open faced burger right now. It's a way to get a beefy burger fix during the winter without the heartbreak of not being able to eat a burger in hand out on the back deck. I also like to slice these pre made patties into inch wide slices, marinade them with hot sauce, grill them and turn them into tacos or fajitas.
Produce plus shares to receive the base along with
Frozen raspberries, spray free
Strawberry finishing sauce. Yes Pete makes his beautiful sauces right here in Winnipeg, and YES, he uses Manitoba Strawberries to make this one. I hooked him up with the strawberry producer in fact.
Parsnips, organic
Squash, organic. This squash is an heirloom variety of spaghetti squash. Harder shell, firmer strands, better flavour.
Dried apples, spray free
Produce only shares to receive the base along with
Frozen Raspberries, spray free
Dried Apples, spray free
Parsnips, organic
Delicata Squash, organic. The skin is so tender on this squash you can eat the skin. I've used this squash in my food in a pot with kale recipe several times now.
Extra lettuce, spray free
