Here is what to expect in your final Food Box:
Organic Rainbow Carrots from Oak Valley Organics
A perfect side dish or a great snack with hummus, Rainbow carrots are a favourite at our market. Adding a little extra colour to your meals is a serotonin boost for sure! With all the same benefits as orange carrots, chop and freeze for soups all winter long.
Spray-Free Beefsteak Tomatoes from Greenland Gardens:
Greenland Gardens Tomatoes are the best around! Juicy and palm sized, they make great BLTs or fit perfectly on burgers. As the seasons come to a close, Tomatoes are always best enjoyed fresh, but freeze them whole and use in pasta sauces, or soups. Pop them in warm water from frozen and the skins peel right off.
Spray-Free Thyme from Twin River Gardens:
Thyme pairs well with lemon and is a great addition to any roast or steaks. Hang your bunch upside down in a cool dry place and have dried thyme all winter.
Spray-Free Rosemary from Twin River Gardens:
Rosemary is a wonderful herb that pairs well with any meat. The plant itself can do wonders for your health. Try steeping some sprigs to make a tea that is great for gut health. Rosemary Essential oil is also great for stress relief.
Spray-Free Edible Flowers from Twin River Gardens:
Either Pansy or Nasturtiums, Edible flowers are a beautiful addition to salads, Charcuterie boards, even press onto cupcakes for an elegant touch. Nasturtiums have a sort of Radish like flavour, a bit of spice but are beautiful. Pansies have an evergreen like flavour and add a great touch to fruit salads.
Spray-Free Red Potatoes from John Abrams Farms
Red potatoes are particularly healthy because of the thin, nutrient filled skins, which are loaded with fiber, B vitamins, iron and potassium. Half of the fiber of a potato comes from the skin. On red potatoes in particular, the skin is already super thin, so it doesn't detract from the taste or texture.
Spray-Free Red Onions from Wild Earth Farms
Sweeter onions like Red Onions are less likely to make you tear up when you cut them!
Spray-Free Kabocha Squash from John Abrams Farms:
Winter squash is buttery and creamy. All winter squashes can be substituted for each other. Puree in soup and add curry for a warm and creamy meal. Even sweeter than butternut squash. It has a light, fluffy, velvety texture, and tastes like a combination of sweet potatoes with pumpkin
Spray-Free Spaghetti Squash from John Abrams Farms:
Spaghetti Squash is definitely a family favourite when it comes to winter squash. Just roast with Butter and Garlic or add your favourite pasta sauce for a low-carb pasta alternative. Try our new Rose sauce from Deluca's!
Spray-Free Acorn Squash from John Abrams Farms:
Acorn squash is full of creamy, fluffy flesh that is great for any pumpkin recipe. Acorn is very good as a sweet dish, add some honey or brown sugar and cinnamon. Or try this week's featured recipe: Roasted Acorn Squash and Apple Soup!
